Spread a Little Love DOUBLE Linky!

I can't believe we are already three weeks into the year! On top of that there are so many teachers who haven't been having full weeks due to weather conditions around the world and I know that totally throws plans off like crazy!

That being said, we still need to think ahead as we are restructuring things to fit the days we are missing out on and Valentines Day is coming soon! I know in my class we never could really do a party persay but we could do themed math!

When it comes to Valentines Day I think about romantic gestures or even random acts of kindness that we can show toward others. So with that in thought, I have decided to host a DOUBLE LINKY party here on ATUE today!

What is a DoUbLe LiNkY party you ask? Well that is a great question! A Double Linky party means that there are two linky parties within one post. It's pretty simple really, the first linky party will be for LOVED  themed FREEBIES where as the second linky party will be for LOVED themed PAID ITEMS.

Please follow the standard rule of listing no more than three items and to list a paid item you must have a freebie item posted as well. The theme can be loosely taken or other items that would tie into the month of February to help teachers prepare!

"When are we EVER going to use THIS?!"

"When are we EVER going to use THIS?!"  This statement... this one little statement has caused fear and panic to run through MANY a math teacher's veins!  It's not like you won't use math in the real world... but sometimes as soon as that question is uttered we have a mind-melting-moment and cannot come up with just the right words to say.

So to help give you some real world, possibly out of the box thinking type ideas, my Book Blogging Buddies and I have come up with an idea that we think will be
 A-MAY-ZING!!

Presenting..... math IS real life!  A monthly REAL WORLD math blog link-up hosted by 4mulaFun, Fourth Grade Studio, Teaching to Inspire in 5th, AND MissMathDork,

So here is how this will work.... on the FIRST Wednesday of every month (starting next Wednesday, August 7th!) all four of us will create a blog post about how we have RECENTLY used math in our real life - not just counting or time.... but topics that your kiddos will be able to relate to at various level of upper elementary and middle school.  Then at the bottom of all four of our blogs we will have a link-up that will sync between all four blogs.  This means you link up to one of us and it will be visible on all 4 blogs!  

So... what are you waiting for?!  You have 6 days to decide what math topic has happened recently in your life and to create a blog post about it!  If you have a product you want to link that APPLIES to the post, go for it, but freebies are more than appreciated too!

We are so very excited to see what everyone comes up with!!

Who Says Teachers Have the Summer Off? Book Clubs in Session and a Summer Reading Linky!

Summer is here for most of us! I have already seen a ton of blog posts and facebook comments about summer reading taking place. The best part about summer is this is the time when we finally have time to enjoy some books: professional reading or personal reading.

Many of us here at ATUE are participating in some awesome book clubs this summer. Not only are the books chosen rich with knowledge and very relevant to today's teaching, but they are perfect for upper grade teachers. We even have something for (hopefully) everyone with a literacy book and a math book.

First up, 4mulafun, MissMathDork, Fourth Grade Studio and Teaching to Inspire in 5th will be hosting a math book. This book written by NCTM President, Linda Gojak's is called What's Your Math Problem?

Next, we have some Common Core literacy action going on with Teaching with the Common Core Standards (Grades 3-5). (When you get to Amazon the picture shows that it is the K-2 book, but it really is the 3-5 book).

One of those Weeks...

Yep, we all have them. Just one of those weeks where everything is on your plate and something has to give. Well this week it had to be my scheduled blog post about "Making Time for INBs". Quite fitting if you think about it.

Some of you may know my mother was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. Last Friday she had her second round of chemo treatments and the week after is always the "bad time". Since my father is a teacher as well, and I am able to work remotely (benefit of virtual teaching), I volunteered to come over and stay during the week so she would have someone to help care for her.

Well, my focus hasn't been on writing a blog post and here I sit at 9:34 pm on Wednesday night to let you know that I'm not forgetting about you all but I wanted to let you know.

I will be back with the blog post about Making Time for INBs in your Classroom in 2 weeks but for now, please jump on over to my blog where I have an Interactive Notebook Linky Party going on! It's for all subjects and all grades! There are so many new people jumping on the INB wagon this summer and we all need inspiration!

It's time for another Free 4 All linky party here at All Things Upper Elementary! But first, I wanted to take this opportunity to share one paid resource with you.

I live in Boston, and our community is still recovering from the recent Boston Marathon bombings. Although it was a truly horrific event, it has brought out the best in the people of Beantown. The entire city is helping to raise money for the One Fund Boston - a fund set up by our mayor and governor to benefit the victims of the bombings.   

I've created a Boston Strong Activity Pack to help out. All the profits from this product will be donated directly to the One Fund. Students will love learning fun facts about Boston while practicing their academic skills. If you can't use it in your own classroom, but are willing to pass on the link to others, that would be wonderful!
